Post 016 — Happy New Year!

Hello friends!

It has been a while since I have posted and I hope everyone had a fun, relaxing holiday. It has been hectic around my house these last few weeks with some renovations we are working on in the basement and sunroom. My house is in complete chaos and I will be happy when these projects are completed. I will post pictures when (if!) everything is finished.

I have spent the last month in my sweatpants, so it’s time for me to get back into the swing of things! These faux collars are some of my favorite, inexpensive ways to add some interest to an outfit without the feeling of too many layers. I wore one from COS that I purchased several years ago, for coffee with my sister at Caffe Tosi in downtown St. Joseph, MI. I always try to go there when I visit the west side of the state. It’s the best! I found some cute options on Amazon here and here.

I wore the same black jeans and black sweater out to dinner that night but dressed up my outfit with this fun lace collar, and heels by Eileen Fisher.  I went out with my family for a belated birthday celebration dinner for my mom at Timothy’s in Union Pier. It was yummy!

Post 015 — Happy Thanksgiving!

Hello friends!

Are you getting ready for your Thanksgiving feast? One important must-have for Thanksgiving Day is an elastic waist band! I found these pull-on, wide-legged cotton pants from J. Crew (on sale now). The pants ran large, so I sized down.

I paired them with a cozy black cashmere sweater by White + Warren that I have owned for many years. Here is a similar v-neck sweater.

My favorite leopard print shoes are also from J. Crew and have been a staple in my wardrobe for a very long time. It’s probably time for me to invest in a new pair. I found a couple of newer looks here and here.

I added some pearl necklaces and pearl earrings to compete my look.

What is your favorite Thanksgiving dish? I always look forward to my mom’s fresh cranberry orange relish. It is the best! I hope you and your family have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday!

Post 014 — Fall Fun

Post 014 — Fall Fun

Hello friends!

My husband and I spent a long weekend in the mountains in North Carolina with a couple of our dear friends. The fall colors were beautiful and the weather was perfect for wearing these super comfortable knit pants that I got from J. Crew (on sale now!). I wore the black pants with a cashmere sweater that I have owned forever — at least 20 years!

Here is a similar sweater from Nordstrom. My leather sneakers were a gift from my sister from London and are not available here, so I found a couple of fun alternative options from Nordstrom here and here.

I’m loving my leather bucket hat that I found while shopping at a boutique in the adorable town of Blowing Rock, NC. Here is a similar hat by Ted Baker. I used to wear hats all the time in the fall and I am going to start wearing them again. They always add a bit of flair to an outfit!

I paired a tan version of the J. Crew pants with this off-white sweater from J. Crew, these booties from Dolce Vita, and an old but timeless Burberry scarf.

Oldish and stylish tip – to keep sweaters looking like new, use a depiller like this one from Amazon to shave off the fuzz and pills. Doing this will add years of life to your cashmere and wool sweaters!

Post 012 — Spanx leggings for the win!

Post 012 — Spanx leggings for the win!

Hello friends!

I have heard all the hype about Spanx leggings and I needed to try a pair for myself! I brought the faux leather leggings to wear on a trip to Connecticut to visit my brother and sister. Are they worth the $98 price tag? In my opinion, the answer is yes!

They definitely compressed my tummy and legs, but I did not feel uncomfortable (I ate a big lunch and ice cream too!) I like the way they are high waisted and don’t roll down at all. They are perfect to take on a trip since they barely take up any space in a suitcase.

Also, the faux leather finish looks nice and can be dressed up with a sweater and booties or dressed down with a sweatshirt and sneakers. Overall, I recommend the Spanx leggings because they are comfortable, versatile, and will hold you in – in all the right places!

Before I ordered the leggings, I read the reviews online and decided to size up from my usual size. I’m glad I did! I paired the leggings with a J. Crew sweater jacket and booties by Dolce Vita.

Post 011 — Fall Transition

Hello friends!

It is sometimes difficult to transition into fall style when the weather is still warm. One easy way to update your look is to change your color palette. I love to wear olive green paired with a darker lipstick. One of my go-to colors for fall is Rebel by MAC, which is a beautiful berry color.  I have worn both the midi t-shirt dress and the jumpsuit by J. Crew in previous posts. Since they were two of my favorite outfits this summer, I bought them in different colors when they went on sale.

The camo dress is sold out, but here is a similar dress and jean jacket by Old Navy. This sandal style by Eileen Fisher has been around for the last several years. They are super comfortable and come in many different colors.

You can still get the jumpsuit on sale at J. Crew now! The trainers are not available, but here is a cute alternative option currently at Nordstrom.

This utility dress by Orvis is probably ten years old. I found a couple of similar looks from Banana Republic here and here. I paired the dress with booties from Dolce Vita which I bought at the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. I know that I will get a lot of wear out of these booties this fall!
